Introducing the 1st Annual PSKC Open Intramural Championship! This is great idea we’re taking from our friends at Catalyst Gym
The CrossFit Open is a worldwide CrossFit competition. You’re competing against yourself from previous years and 1000s of other CrossFitters in the world. We’ve done it every year and every year it keeps getting better, but this is year is different.
We want EVERYONE to compete in the Open. Regardless of what you think of yourself as an “athlete” and especially if you’re just getting started, we want you to participate. Competition helps provide a little extra pressure to perform and pushes you to train harder. Face it we all need to something to train for, but we get it…some folks don’t like the anxiety of individual competition. Plus who really cares how you stack up against 1000s of anonymous CrossFitters in the world.
But what if you were on a team with people in your own gym, competing against your fellow gym mates? It’s so much better being on a team right?
In 2015, we’re going to have at least 4 intramural teams competing in an house competition for the CrossFit Open. And you’re going to be on one of them.
Every coach and member will be ‘drafted’ onto an Intramural team, each team will be captained by a different coach. We will do a random draw to select the teams and ensure even distribution of the competitive athletes across all teams.
Team Captains will rotate draws, and then notify the athletes of their team. The ‘Draft Party’ will take place the week before the Open begins.
+1 Point – Every member of a team that attends a “Road to the Open” seminar. The next one is this Friday at 630pm as Coach Hammer teaches you to row better and master double unders.
+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout.
+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 for each workout gets an extra point for their team.
+3 Points – “First time”: You’ll get 3 points for “firsts” such as first Toe2Bar, Pullup, Muscle Up…etc
+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points.
Athletes competing in the Open will have only four days to complete each workout. We haven’t yet set our schedule for competition. But we will try to get everyone to do the workouts on Friday night or Saturday morning.
We’ll have some random draws each week for prizes. The top team will also earn a GRAND prize. Details released soon!
This year our focus on the Open is on COMMUNITY and FUN. We want participation because it will make you fitter, and you’ll get to experience an amazing competition on an amazing team. You’ll push for yourself but you’ll push harder for your teammates.
2015 is YOUR year and we’re doing everything possible to make it awesome. The first step is get registered!
