24 Nov Thanksgiving Week Schedule
One of the favorite weeks of the year. A time to gather around family and loved ones to give thanks for our health, happiness, and all the blessings around us. Too often we are focused on the wrong things and don’t take time to be present and cultivate an attitude of gratitude for the blessings around us. We are thankful for a couple of things:
1) The country we live in and the ones who protect us to allow us to live our dream. There are those who have never felt freedom.
2) Our health, the ability to train and have “fun”. There are those who are immobile and sick or those who abuse their bodies.
3) Our community – the family we were given and the family we choose. A wonderful group of people who support, encourage, and challenge one another to better people. There are those who have never felt such love.
This time of the year we rightfully focus on gratitude and being thankful. What if we everyday we started by being thankful? Not just in November, but everyday. Below is an exercise you can try to get your started on the right foot.
Try this out….during your shower in the morning take 5 minutes and don’t think of the craziness that your schedule demands that day, don’t think of all you “have to do” with crazy relatives coming, meals to be cooked and chores to be done, don’t let your mind race focused on the future.
Breathe deeply and try not to think of anything except deep inhales and exhales. Once you’ve quieted your mind down. Focus on the hot water and be grateful for it. Ever had to take a cold shower? Ever not taken a shower for a couple days? Have you ever not had access to clean water? There are a lot of people in the world that have never bathed in clean hot water. Yet, it’s something you do everyday.
For those 5 minutes think of nothing else other than being grateful for every drop of hot water. It’s very simple but you’ve never probably done it. This little exercise is how you cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Try to do this every time you take a shower and you’ll be amazed by how much better you feel and how much more positive your outlook becomes. Everyday in addition to hot water, think of something else you can be grateful for.
