It’s here baby! We are in a final preparation to support 70 athletes and a couple hundred spectators. From Michigan to North Carolina we have a massive amount of awesomeness we’re gonna pack into Saturday.
A couple of final notes/reminders for Saturday.

One thing we will not tolerate is being disrespectful. If you get no repped or a mistake is made, be the better person. The worst thing on Earth is to watch an an athlete bitch to a judge. These guys are volunteering their time to support the athletes and put on a great event. If there’s any issues about judging and/or scorekeeping see me (Dale). If you make any drama about it, you’ll be asked to leave. Now onto the cool stuff…

Park off of 10th St., no parking will be made available inside the gym. We’ll be using our parking lot to support the event.
No food will be made available inside the gym, however our great friends at the Garage Cafe are hooking us up! Each competitor will receive a $1 off coupon for any menu item, including the awesome PSKC PALEO BOWL! Plus the Garage Cafe is only 1/2 mile from the gym.
Feel free to bring a canopy/tent to set up in the front parking lot for you and your crew. Go tailgate style and have some fun.

We’ve had a couple last minutes drops and switches. We’ll make the heat schedule available on Saturday morning. Plus we could have a few late minutes spots open up the morning of the Gauntlet. Let us know if you’re interested.
We will meet up for tasty food and more importantly great brew at the Portsmouth Brewery at 5pm. If you’re staying in town we’d love to have you for a great time.

It’s Gauntlet week! We’re wrapping everything up and in the final prep phase for an amazing day on Saturday. If you have volunteered to judge, please shoot email@example.com an email, we’re currently finalizing the lists for judges and volunteers. Don’t forget judges get 1/2 half of the awesome Gauntlet shirts!
This Saturday in Portsmouth we’ll have 70 competitors coming from all over the state of Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, and West Virginia! It will be a great showcase of the regional CrossFit talent and community. So even if you’re not competing please feel free to come down and watch some awesome people do some amazing things. If you’re curious about CrossFit or never have witnessed a competition up close, we’d love to have you. Don’t forget a portion of the proceeds will go towards Battling for Boston. We’ll have event t-shirts for sale the day of the event for spectators.
For PSKC members we’ll have these available throughout the week so you can have them in time to support your fellow PSKC’rs on this Saturday!

Speaking of the Gauntlet…check out event #3
Yesterday the PSKC staff beta tested event 3 out on the Lane of Pain…and there wasn’t a single thing that needed to be changed! What I love about this event is that it’s incredibly simple from a technique standpoint, everyone can do it without any scaling….but by no means does that meaen it’s easy. It will be a true test of will power…
For event 3 fellas will get a 95lb barbell and a set of 53lb bells. Ladies will get a 65lb bar and a set of 35s. But that’s all we’re gonna tell you.
So you’re on the fence…you’re wondering if you should do it. A little self doubt is creeping in making you question whether you should throw your hat in the ring. One of the greatest Presidents of all time said it best…
“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”
I’ve done plenty of competitions. Some I’ve done well…more than usual I didn’t place near the top. But I never regretted a single one, and neither will you. It’s not about where you place or don’t place. It’s about celebrating the fact you can get out there and do it. The only time I regretted a competition was the one I didn’t do.

It is Wednesday and I’ve been slacking on the recipe of the week. So here’s a great side dish to add to your favorite tasty piece of meat.
Caramelized Cauliflower and Onion
1 head of cauliflower 2 medium onions1/2 cup cooking sherry2 tablespoons organic butterPepper to taste 2 packs of chicken broth concentrate
Melt butter in a large skillet. Chop cauliflower and onion and sauté in butter, sherry, chicken broth concentrate and pepper. Cook for an hour to hour and a half on medium heat, stirring every 10 minutes or so. This is the best side dish! Its great with steak, pork chops, and chicken. It’s tastes too good to be healthy! I suggest doubling the recipe and storing your leftovers in the fridge for another dinner.
There it is, we know event 1 will be good old fashioned deadlifts testing your strength. With event 2 we want to go try out your conditioning, and nothing better than kettlebell snatches. Is that all it will involve? How long will it take? What’s the set up? These and many more questions like them will be answered on June 2nd. But you gotta register before next Saturday, May 19th registration will close to allow us enough to order shirts and get our logistically ducks in a row. So click HERE to register! Some companies talk about supporting the troops. Other companies set the example. Rogue Fitness leads by example.The have single handedly started a renaissance of American manufacturing, right in our backyard of Columbus, Ohio.
I will never forget traveling up to Rogue HQ back in 07 to get my first set of kettlebells. Back then it was a tiny warehouse with a couple employees. Fast forward to now, Rogue Fitness is a now a monster with their equipment featured in television, military gyms, college gyms…all over. A massive warehouse in Columbus with dozens of employees.
Having Rogue on board is huge. A big part of the Gauntlet is to raise some money for our local USMC recruiting station. During the event, we will have a donation bucket and what we are asking competitiors and spectators is to drop some cash in the bucket. At the end of the day, whatever you guys donate, PSKC will match up to $500. Whatever the total is we will turn around and present the local USMC recruiting station with a gift certificate from Rogue to purchase some much needed fitness equipment so the local young men and women can better prepare themselves for recruit training.
Once I floated the idea to Rogue HQ, they were all about it. They essentially replied and said
“damn straight, we’ll hook them up with a $500 gift certificate“.

A couple of announcements…
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards purchasing some kettlebells and equipment that will be donated to the local Marine recruiting station here in Portsmouth! This will enable them to better prepare future Marines for the rigors of basic training. So here’s the deal, on the day of the event we will have a donation bucket that will go towards the equipment fund for the Portsmouth Recruiting Station. The gym will match up to $500 whatever you guys donate. So a nice lil $1000 gift certificate from Rogue Fitness will go a long way to better prepare our local young men and women enlisting in the Marines.

So without further adieu, the first of the four events at the 2012 Gauntlet will be a deadlift ladder! At the start of the event, the contestants will have 45 seconds to attempt a successful lift. They will then have 15 seconds to transition to the next weight if the lift is successful. Only conventional style deadlift is permitted. The following are the weights for male/female:
*In the event the contestant makes it to the last weight. It then becomes a 1 minute as many reps as possible event. Score is determined by total number of reps completed.
Keep in mind this is only 1 of the 4 events you’ll be participating in during the course of the day. We will post more hints/details in the coming weeks. In the meantime get signed up now! If you don’t want to compete we can definitely use your help as a volunteer/judge. Get ahold of one of us to let us know!

Here’s what you can count on….FUN in an amazing and encouraging atmosphere. You will be tested physically and mentally. This is for all levels and a great chance to do your first competition.
If you don’t want to compete we still need your help! We will need several volunteers and judges to pull this off. So just let us know if you’re willing to volunteer your time!
